Default Questions about KCR new range practices?

I posted this today on the KCR forum man you guys I am not having fun at the range anymore is anyone else feeling this way or should I shut up and find some place else to shoot? Kenny doesn't even seem that interested in dealing with this stuff anymore maybe he is just getting tired too.

I am a KCR member I pay my due's as expected yearly and have done so for the last 5 years. I drive 54 miles one way to go to the range, I generally like to make a day of it. Lately my last 3 times to the range have been less than fun. Today was no exception I didn't even unload a gun from my car. The range is half full but because the range is half roped off it was shoulder to shoulder. I appreciate the new safety process in place and the control the range officers have but there is no need for their attitude. This is still a customer related event and their attitude should reflect this. I do not go to the range to challenge their authority and argue with them I go to have a good time so please stop being mean and nasty. The one officer that walks around with the locked and loaded 1911 in the tactical holster please dude no one is planning on ambushing you. I don't understand the premise of only using one half of the shooting line, could a KCR staffer please explain this. I know for me at this time and with the economy as bad as it is my next years due's will stay in my pocket and I will find a more enjoyable place to shoot. This thread is by no means meant to start trouble, I am just making suggestions. Please re-evaluate the recent changes and keep the good and adjust the bad. Thanks.

The last time I went it was no good.It was the AR15 shoot. The "Range Nazi" as we coined it,was an ass.I had a gun completely stripped,(HK) and had the reciever over a trash can cleaning it and got my ass reamed by him.I did not have the bolt or the trigger group anywhere close. No danger of shooting while the range was cold,I didnt try to assemble it or anything.I told him what I thought and packed my stuff.I will always continue to go to the shoots but never will I shoot there again. That guy thought I must have been an idiot because I had MGs and didnt know shit about safety.I have shot more MGs than he has JO about.Completely un called for.

I guess the next question is where do we shoot our long guns at now the range here in La Grange is re-dick-u-less in price, a buddy says there is a free range run by the dept of natural resources in Taylorsville guess I need to find that place.

Ive been trying to find info about the Taylorsville one for a few months. I'm not really well connected or anything but I havnt found much about it. Hopefully someone finds something about it soon. KCR is getting pretty silly for anyone trying to enjoy shooting.

This sucks. The creek has been getting more strict about a lot of rules, my guess would be insurance/liability and the fact a few people act like idiots, but why not just kick out the few. I have been able to find this place on line, but have not had a chance to check it out yet. Might have to do that soon though.

http://fw.ky.gov/kfwis/arcims/wma.asp?strId=22

For me, it would be about the same distance maybe a little closer.

I was there when that range officer went off about you cleaning your reciever, (over a trash-can, and not on the firing line) he was way to quick to fuss at people. He jumped on us for policing our brass shortly after you rolled out in the Viper. I think there needs to be a little gray area/ leway when it comes to cleaning a gun part, or policing your brass IMO.

The range in Taylorsville is a pretty nice place.I shoot there all the time, the only bad things about it is it only has 6 stations and your shooting through metal tubes(kinda sucks on hand guns) because behind the backstop is the lake.
Overall it is a nice place,no range officer, free stands(bring tape or staples)and pre determined distance on the target stands.

Last time I was there the range nazi was in full effect. He had everyone roped off to the right side of the range, where the ground is not even level, so scoping in a rifle was a no go. I told him how f@%cked up his set-up was and I think I struck a nerve. A few minutes later he opened up the area about 10 more spaces down. Its like he gets pissed if he cant find someone breaking the rules. Maybe we can get a group of us to go out there one day, and if they employ these tactics (and the range nazi enforcing them) all of us go right back inside and request a refund due to this. I can tolerate assholes, but this range nazi guy gives assholes a bad name.

The old range nazi at knob creek is a big azz, took my wife there for the first time to show her the "gun crowd" isn't a bunch of crazy extremists but just decent everyday people. He stuck us next to 2 guys that couldn't speak any english and kept shooting a pistol that shot the brass her way as she was trying to shoot a 10/22,I asked them to kinda watch it (which the didn't understand)then asked him to open up the other area so we weren't so cramped
his reply was they paid just like you did so i don't know what to tell you,so i waited for the bench next to them to open and took my ar and made sure every shell went their way, they didn't think it was to funny saying something in spanish as they left. When he seen what happened he asked us to leave,so me and my money will go else where from now on

Grrr, it kills me to live so far away from you gentlemen. I'd show up to every open shoot posted.
I especially like the BBQ prospect!

As for the KCR range, I believe they should see this. Send them a link, or in some other way get the message through to them.

I am actually heading to KCR tomorrow about noon. my last visit there wasnt too awful bad to be honest but i have heard some HORROR stories. I have shopped them for years but only used the range twice. SO i suppose tomorrow i will see what the fuss about i hope i see this range nazi. i will wait till the end of my day and put him in his place and anyone whos me knows i am not joking. It just sounds like some of these officers are getting a big head and are getting a little too big for their britches. You give an idiot a little power they will run it a mile.

wish me luck. if anyone wants to do some shooting tomrrow look me up

I was thinking of trying to go to KCR Sunday. The Garand needs to be shot and my dad has a shotgun he bought like 2 years ago and hasn't got to shoot yet. Sucks to hear it has gotten this way. Haven't shot there in a couple of years and they were just getting pissy with the range nazis then

Glad you saw it.I dont feel like I am exagerating at all.He also would not let us grab a mag off the table to load while the range was cold. But guess what....! I agree to be safe at all times and I also watch others and try to point things out if I see them but its ridiculous when I was there.I have a picture of the guy somewhere and I will post it tonight if I can find it.

I agree. The last time I was there was with toddstang and the comment about give an idiot a little power hit the nail on the head. Plus, I loved having to buy flags, especially considering how many I had at home.

Last time I went it was the Monday after the MG shoot and it wasn't too bad. Just chamber flags, and they were being anal about what targets you could use (no dummy cell phones), but no worse than normal. Plus it's the only range where I can stretch the legs on my rifle.
