Default Eotech 512 vs 517

the 512 is $338 plus $30 mail in rebate and the 517 is $354 plus a $50 rebate.....which would you buy? is there any advantages to each?

517 has buttons on the side. Go with that one.

The 517 is also NV compatible, but I doubt that matters to you.

even with just a MBUIS an inch or so behind my 512, the buttons aren't fun to get to sometimes.

Its not bad turning it on cause either button will do it...but you gotta push both of them to turn it off which can make for an awkward angle. I'd go 517 if I had it to do over

Is this an AA model? I'm probably going to go EO on my next build just to see if it's really faster at close range than an Aimpoint. Cheap batteries are a HUGE plus in my book.

Seems like a good deal better than Google Shopping - do you mind to share the link?

Cool - side buttons and AA's are the way I'd go.

eotech..pick up gun...turn on eotech...disengage safety...aim...pull trigger

aimpoint..pick up gun...disengage safety...aim.........pull trigger

even if the aimpoint is THAT slow....aimpoint wins

i do like the way the eotech is built, and the reticle...but probably wont buy one until their runtime is at least half of what the aimpoint gives. I look forward to playing with y'alls tho :D

I remember reading that rechargeable batteries are NOT recommended in weapon sights. I forget why, though... Wish I could find the discussion again.

they self discharge 10% per month...but if i wernt going to use nimh's i would rather have a 1-cell lithium version of an eo...because i would probably buy lithuim AA anyways...and i have other crap that takes 123a's

If I were to buy an EOtech it would be a XPS of some flavor...

But that's a moot point when things like the M4s and T-1 exist.

yea...im trying not to do the aimpoint kool ade thing tho..haha...although i can barely even say eotech without critisizing their battery life...i do really, really like the eo, like i said..ill be in line for one when the battery life begins to approach that of the aimpoint...unless there is some HUGE innovation in aiming systems before that happens

I have the 517 on my armalite and love it.....I just got my $50 mail in rebate back a few days ago. It took a while to get it, but other than that no complaints!

I'd go AA because I have dozens of Sanyo Eneloops around the house (3 young kids with lots of toys) and they seem to hold the majority of their charge for close to a year. Buying batteries sucks can get expensive real quick with kids.
