Default Taylorsville Lake gun range

http://s1000.photobucket.com/albums/...3162010367.jpg

Visited the Taylorsville Lake gun range today, wanted to see what shooting down a tube was all about!!!! LOL
Tried to attach thumbnails,,,,,hopefull photobucket will work?!?!?!

Targets are at 25 yds, they are easily moved to 50 yds, 100 yds, etc....
Shooting the PLR-22 with the 26rd magazine was almost too tall......good place for sighting in, not the best place for unloading a full clip though.

That's her. How'd you make out shooting through the tubes? It took me a while to get used to it. MUCH harder trying to shoot a handgun through them.

I didnt do too bad....just playing around with the red dot on my 22.
Luckily I had some cornhole bags in the truck, so I just rested the pistol on them and fired away!

Shooting the .223 pistol thru the tube was LOUD times 10!! Only shot a couple rounds with it

Thanks for the pics. I have heard people talk about "the tubes" for awhile now. Glad to finally see them. Strange set up, but hey, it's a place to shoot.

I once saw some one there when no one else was there shooting inside the fence....

And yes, those tubes are LOUD! When I was shooting my PSL last saturday there I had to use plugs and muffs but once after coming back from checking my target I forgot to put both on. It was so loud that for a solid 10-15 seconds I had no clue what was going on! I mean totally dazed. It was bad!

I agree JD. The guy next to me shot his rifle before I had my muffs on and my ears rang for two days afterwards.

Looks pretty nice. I need to run up there and take junior along. With some of the mental cases we have out here I'm glad no ones tore it up. The bathrooms at the park and tail waters are always getting wrecked.

Sorry for bumping such an old thread but has anyone used this range recently? How's the crowd on the weekends? Looking for somewhere to take the old lady that won't be so busy and full of people yelling.

Usually not so crowded this time of year, but I dont' think they permit handguns anymore. Signs indicate that site is under video surveillance as shown in first image.

That's fine, we're just going to plink around with the 22 and AR most likely. Thanks!

Range is restricted to 100 yrds only. Bad design - shorter distance shots are not stopped by the berm and boaters on lake were getting rained on. With all the rain - can't help but wonder how much lead is washing into the lake below. Probably make for heavier fish though. EPA would probably have a fit over it if they knew.

What is the purpose of shooting through those tubes? Looks like wearing blinders.

This is a twin to the range at Otter Creek in Meade Co. I shoot handguns inside the fence when no one is around. Length is about 150 yds. Nice high berm for a backstop.

I've always been told it's a safety thing. To ensure the bullet goes straight at the berm/backstop area I guess. So you don't have anyone launching any at 45 degree angles and the sort. But I've never been there. But have asked about that, and that's what I was told.

The last time I was out there I ran into a man who told me his son was arrested for shooting a pistol on the down range side of the fence. He said they have zero sense of humor about breaking the rules there. I have never seen any cameras there though. I got caught by a conservation officer a couple of years ago shooting pistols in one of the hunting areas. I had a nice back stop and was shooting targets only. He told me I was breaking the law and that he could confiscate my weapons and write me several tickets. I was dumbfounded that shooting a gun in a hunting area was illegal. He explained that since that goofy range was built it changed all the rules in the WMA land. I apologized and ended up talking with him for a long time. He was a really nice guy and all was well.
